How to Replace Your Wiper Blades from Sewell Toyota

Maintaining great visibility out on the road is key to staying safe out on the road. One easy way to achieve this is to keep your windshield wipers in great shape. Remember that most windshield wipers are made of rubber, meaning that even with limited use, these wipers will wear and should be examined every 6-12 months. If you find that your wipers are torn, cracked, or heavily worn, they may not grip your windshield properly and they may struggle to remove mud, rain, sleet, or snow from your eyeline.

Replacing your wiper blades is a fairly simple process if you follow a few simple steps. In order to replace your wiper blades yourself:

  • Measure - your wiper blades for length or consult your owner’s manual for the proper blade size

  • Remove old wipers - Lift your wiper arms away from the vehicle’s windshield and depress the small tabs on the underside of the wiper, where it meets the wiper arm. When the tab is depressed, slide the wiper blade off of the arm by pulling downward

  • Attach the new wiper - Pull the new wiper blade tight onto the arm. You’ll hear a clicking sound when it locks into place. Then, lower the arm slowly back onto the windshield, then repeat this process on the other arm

  • Test - the wiper blades once they have been installed. It is better to find any issues while you are in a position to correct them than  waiting for the next downpour
